Self-Assessment of Memory (metamemory)

Asset & Health Dynamics among the Oldest Old (AHEAD; Herzog & Wallace 1997)

Items adapted from modified TICS:
o Immediate free recall. 10 short, concrete, high-frequency nouns were read to the respondent, who was then asked to recall as many of them as possible.
o Delayed free recall. After 5 minutes had passed, respondent was asked to recall the nouns previously presented.
o Serial 7s: Respondent asked to start at 100 & subtract by increments of 7 for 5 trials.
o Other tests: counting backward from 20 for 10 continuous answers; naming day of the week & date; naming objects that "people usually use to cut paper" & "the kind of prickly plant that grows in the desert"; naming president & vice-president.
o Similarities Test modified from WAIS-R
o Self-rated memory (metamemory)
o Herzog & Wallace (1997). Demographic, health & health behavior correlates of cognitive function (aggregate score, memory score, & mental status score) are reported.

Personnes Agees QUID (PAQUID)

o MMSE, Benton Visual Retention Test, Paired-associates test of WMS, Isaacs Set Test, Digit Symbol Substitution Test, single item measure of subjective memory; dementia evaluation 3777 persons aged 65+ living in Gironde & Dordogne, France.
